2016 Meeting Postponed due to Hurricane Matthew

matthew-track-11am-tuesday

We regret to inform you, the SCACS Board was moved to postpone the annual meeting due to travel difficulties associated with Hurricane Matthew.  With the governor’s announcement of evacuations of the coast, as well as a state of emergency for South Carolina, we felt this decision was in the best interest of our members.

No make-up date for the meeting has been determined.  However, once a new date has been coordinated it will be announced through email and on this website.  Please check back for updates.

The Beach Cove has offered their assistance in canceling your reservation.  Please call 800-331-6533 and select option 1, referring the SCACS.

2016 Annual Meeting – Featured Speaker Announced

Coach Matt Schilling

Join us for a motivational breakfast on Thursday, 6 October 2016, at 7:30am, as we celebrate a historic moment in South Carolina sports history.  Matt Schilling will share with us his experience as the first base coach and hitting coach for the National Champion Coastal Carolina Chanticleers.

Matt Schilling, who played baseball at Coastal Carolina from 1993-94 and coached the Chants from 1995-00, returned to his alma mater to serve as a volunteer assistant baseball coach in summer 2012. Schilling is in his fifth season in his second stint on the Chanticleer staff.

He coaches the infielders, is the first base coach, and works with the hitters. Schilling also serves as director of Chanticleer Baseball Camps.

Coastal Carolina infielders finished 2016 ranked #1 in the NCAA for turning double plays, after being ranked #2 nationally in that category for 2015.  The Chants also lead the country in runs scored and home runs for the 2016 season, while ranking in the top 5 nationally for stolen bases, and sacrifice bunts.

Between his time at Coastal, Schilling spent 12 years as the senior director of on-field instruction at the Baseball Factory in Columbia, Md., which is one of the – if not the – premier recruiting services in the country. Schilling served three years as an associate scout with the Atlanta Braves, working under current Kansas City Royals Assistant General Manager J.J Picollo. At the Baseball Factory he worked one-on-one with many future college and professional players including Giants infielder Manny Burriss. He also worked, organized and ran various Baseball Factory events that featured future big leaguers David Wright, B.J. Upton, Gavin Floyd, Delmon Young, Will Rhymes, Chris Perez and Derek Holland, among others.

2015 Annual Meeting – Featured Speaker Announced

Clebe McClary

Clebe McClary 001

Join us for a motivational breakfast on Thursday, 1 October 2015, at 7:30am, to hear Clebe McClary, one of America’s most inspirational speakers.  Very rarely are most people today given the opportunity to listen to a true American hero. With the hectic pace of the world we live in, the word “hero” often gets lost in the headlines.
Patrick Cleburne “Clebe” McClary was raised on a 10,000 acre plantation in the South Carolina Low Country. Young Clebe grew up hunting, fishing and excelling at sports.  After fulfilling his dream of becoming a college coach, Clebe had plans to marry a beautiful Southern belle. Life was very good.
But only weeks before the wedding, Clebe witnessed a startling event on a college campus that changed the course of his life forever ¬the burning of an American flag by students protesting the Vietnam conflict.  Dismayed by the lack of support for the country he loved, Clebe resigned from his coaching position and volunteered for duty in the Marine Corps.
Completing Officers Training School in Quantico, Virginia, First Lt. McClary said goodbye to his bride and became platoon leader of the 1st Recon Battalion in Vietnam.
On his 19th recon patrol, deep in hostile territory, Clebe and his unit engaged in hand-to-hand combat with the enemy. Suffering devastating injuries, which included the loss of his left arm and left eye, Clebe continued to lead his men.  He was awarded three Purple Hearts, The Silver Star and The Bronze Star.
Clebe’s valiant battle with the pain and disabilities that followed is nothing short of amazing. He spent over two years in military hospitals, undergoing over 30 major surgeries and countless hours of physical therapy. Since then Clebe has used his powerful story of courage, determination and strength to motivate audiences the world over.

Once you’ve heard Clebe McClary speak, your life will never be the same
. . .Only better!
Dan Reeves, Former Head Coach, Atlanta Falcons
Clebe is a man who represents all that is good about this country, one of our best.
The Reverend Billy Graham
Clebe McClary represents all that is good in America. His tremendous courage is an inspiration to all who have heard his story. I am privileged to know him personally and to call him my friend.
Tom Landry, Former Head Coach, Dallas Cowboys
The fact that Clebe is even here to speak to us after what he’s been through is a miracle. He’s an inspiration to every American in every walk of life.
Tommy LaSorda, Former Manager, Los Angeles Dodgers
Clebe’s presentation was the highlight of our meeting and that’s not only my view, but the view of all who were fortunate enough to hear him speak.
Craig Camuso, Georgia Textile Association
